Everything You Need to Know About Rampage Skateboard
With the ever-growing popularity of skateboarding, quite a few brands are doing a great job with their innovation and dedication toward their respective user base. Among these brands, one particular brand that shines is Rampage. They have been doing a terrific job of manufacturing some of the best beginner-level skateboards with different skating accessories.
In this Rampage skateboard review, I will talk about Rampage as a brand, their targeted user base, and lastly, review two of their bestselling skateboards in detail. Let’s begin!
Is Rampage a Good Skateboard Brand?
Rampage initially started its journey as a home ramp manufacturer back in the day. After their success as a ramp manufacturer, Rampage expanded its territory in the skateboarding industry and started manufacturing skateboards, keeping beginners and intermediate skateboarders in mind.
From my personal experience, I would say Rampage has perfectly executed something that only a handful of brands ever managed to do in today’s market, which is ensuring the perfect balance between quality, comfort, and price. Skateboards from Rampage pack all the right qualities, which makes Rampage an excellent choice as a brand.
For Whom the Rampage Skateboard is Perfect?
Rampage has a wide range of complete skateboards, and if you are a beginner or casual skateboarder, Rampage skateboards should be perfect for you. Starting with the price, any of the Rampage skateboards don’t cost a lot of money, but the quality of a sub 30£ price tag is pretty impressive.
So as a beginner, if you don’t want to spend much, Rampage has got you covered. Then another advantage is the type itself.
Assuming you have zero knowledge, every components Rampage picked and used to build these complete skateboards is of excellent quality. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about picking up different components too.
1: Rampage Plain Third Complete Skateboard Review
Our first pick among different Rampage complete boards is their Plain Third skateboard. Of course, this board is a budget-friendly one, but Rampage still managed to showcase its innovation and expertise in this particular product.
Talking about the size and build quality, first, the deck is made with seven-ply Chinese maple wood. Because of the multi-ply, the board feels sturdy, balanced, and capable of withstanding extensive riding easily. If you are a heavier guy, this board has your back with a maximum weight rating of 100Kg.
The dimension of this board is 8″ x 32″, a pretty standard and balanced size that should cover every type of skater. Rampage decided to go with quality 5″ sea eagle trucks which should serve you for pretty much everything except professional riding or advanced tricks. It comes preassembled from Rampage and ready to ride straight out of the box as a complete board.
Another critical aspect of any complete skateboard is the wheels and the bearings. The wheels and bearings are way better than the junk most other complete skateboards come with the time I spent riding this skateboard.
50mm PU injected wheels combined with ABEC 3 bearings; this skateboard is responsive, fast, and pretty well balanced. As a beginner skateboard, these wheels really make a good impression, and once you get the hold, you can always replace the bearings with better ones.
Design-wise, this board has a minimalistic look with a gloss black color and Rampage written below the deck. The 80AB grip tape comes pre-applied and provides a good amount of grip.
Overall, this board really stands out from the rest of the complete boards in the budget segment with good features. I know budget complete boards are kind of infamous for their quality, but if you are starting or have a tight budget, I’ll recommend you this skateboard any day with my eyes closed.
2: Rampage Bonehead Skateboard Review
Another great offering from Rampage with a different look than the previous one. Apart from the look, though, both skateboards share the good attributes of a classic Rampage skateboard. We chose this model because of the high quality and the price, has a lot going for it.
Rampage used nine ply Chinese maple wood for the deck, which might not be the best material for the price, but durable enough to withstand riding on harsh or uneven terrain and by a beginner skateboarder.
As per Rampage, this board can take a load of up to 100 Kg, so there is nothing to worry about if you are a big or heavy guy. The board is 8 inches wide and 31 inches long, which is the perfect size for both kids and older beginners. The design below the deck looks pretty dope, which will surely make the heads turn.
Unlike other complete options in the market, this Rampage skateboard shines when it comes to the components below the skateboard. Thanks to the 50mm PU injection wheels, you get the proper speed and overall balance needed to learn skateboarding initially.
Combining the wheels with the carbon steel ABEC 3 bearing, I would say this skateboard has one of the best wheel bearing combos in the budget segment. In addition, the skateboard features 5″ sea eagle trucks that are super responsive and allow you to have complete control over the skateboard.
In the end, I’m pretty sure you’ll fall in love with this skateboard at first glance, as I did. Besides the look, the balance, stability, and quality of the deck make this skateboard a suitable choice for all beginners out there.
Can I Do Tricks With a Rampage Skateboard on a Halfpipe?
There is no clear answer to this question as the answer depends on different factors like what kind of halfpipe ramp you have and what type of tricks you are thinking of. Ideally, wider decks with larger wheels are the go-to choice for halfpipe skating.
So, if you are thinking about doing advanced tricks on big halfpipe ramps, these Rampage skateboards are not the options to opt for. But, on the other hand, if it’s a small halfpipe ram at home, you might be able to get away with few basic tricks.
Final Verdict
Like any other sport, skateboarding is not something you can learn easily without practice and persistence. However, a good quality skateboard can make your journey easier and more encouraging during that learning phase. That’s exactly where Rampage comes in with its skateboards keeping the comfort and ease of use in mind.
I hope my Rampage skateboard review will justify why we chose Rampage as a brand and suggested their products for you. From my personal testing, I can say both skateboards were equally good. So select any of these skateboards, and you should be good to go.
