As a skateboarder, it is a very common question to me that “can you skateboard on the sidewalk?” That’s why today, I am writing on it
Skateboarding on the sidewalk depends on the rules and regulations that govern the part of the world that you live in. So, do not blame those that ask if you can skateboard on the sidewalk.
As a skateboarder, you are seen as a pedestrian and have almost the same governing rules as those that govern a person riding a bicycle on the sidewalks. So, in major regions of the world, you are allowed to skateboard on the sidewalks.
The only exception to riding on the sidewalks is when you ride on a square, railway streets, and 2nd avenue.
So, as a skateboarder that is skating on the sidewalks, you must be mindful of the requirements that govern pedestrians which allow them to pay attention to the rules of the sidewalks in other to avoid an unseen accident.
So, to the question of; is it legal to skateboard on the sidewalk? Yes, the answer is, but only depends on the rules that govern pedestrians commuting on the sidewalks. All you have to do is to make inquiries and know more about the regulations that govern busy areas in the state or city that you live in.
But note that skateboarding is prohibited in streets, except if they are ridden on the crosswalk.
Skateboarding on the sidewalks does not require a special license, according to the city I live in.
But you need to be mindful of how you skate to avoid you causing trouble with your reckless skating by hitting a signboard or hitting a neighbor, which could eventually land you in some serious trouble.
Can I Ride an Electric skateboard on the Road?
Firstly, I would love to inform you that just as an electric skateboard is different from a normal skateboard, so are the rules and regulations that govern them.
So, the simple answer to the question about if you can ride an electric skateboard on the road is No, you cannot do that.
The simple reason why riding an electric skateboard on the street is prohibited is because; you are only allowed to skate with an electric skateboard on your property. You are not allowed to skate with an electric skateboard on public roads.
No law allows skaters to skate with electric skateboards in public, and the reason is that electric skateboards are still very new to be allowed in the public.
Although you probably will not be punished by the police for skating with an electric skateboard in public, this is because; the laws that prohibit electric skateboards from being ridden on the street are still in the processing stage. So, the police will probably not be familiar with the laws and regulations.

Can You Skateboard on a Rough Sidewalk?
Sometimes we feel like exploring more than our usual places for skateboarding. But you should know that skating on rough sidewalks will not make your skateboard wheels last long or move well, except they are very soft polyurethane wheels.
While you plan on skating on rough surfaces, prepare for the outcome, as dirt and other debris will get into the bearing of your skateboard, and in turn, alter the fastness of your skateboard.
Dirt can even lock up the bearings of your skateboard until it is properly cleaned. So, get ready to always, properly clean your skateboard bearing whenever you wish to ride your skateboard on rough surfaces.
Common sense lets you know that smooth roads make your skateboard ride faster and for a longer period, while rough roads do the opposite to your skateboard.
Riding on rough roads will not give you so much pleasure, as you will have problems with balancing and will always need to push harder compared to when riding on smooth surfaces.
The only way to enjoy riding on a rough sidewalk is when you have big and soft skateboard wheels. Softer skateboard wheels are known as the best wheels for cruising on rough and coarse surfaces because they have a better grip.
With bigger and soft skateboard wheels, only a little effort is required to push and maintain speed while skateboarding on rough surfaces. Soft wheels are also more preferable for rolling up on a curb. But for smooth surfaces, hard skateboard wheels are more preferable.
Hard wheels are not suitable for rough surfaces because to be able to skate properly, you will need to have more contact with the surfaces of the sidewalks, and big and soft wheels provide that!
